MANILA, Philippines鈥擨nstead of their guns, they carried the cross.
Policemen of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Good聽Friday聽were made to carry the cross to atone for their sins in commemorating the Passion of Christ inside Camp Karingal in Quezon City.
The Station of the Cross is part of the week-long activity of the QCPD in observance of the Lenten season.
The policemen bore the crosses throughout the procession and 聽went through the 14 ways of the cross聽from the first station, where Jesus was condemned to death, until the last station where Jesus was laid in the tomb.
Rev. Father Alexander Pardo, chaplain of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Camp Karingal led the penitential walk and challenged the police to renew their hearts and 聽to live by its mandate to serve and protect the nation.
鈥淭his is my challenge to the policemen and women of the Quezon City police to really renew their hearts through their participation in the carrying of the cross,鈥 said Rev. Father Alexandoe Pardo, chaplain of the Sacred heart of Jesus in Camp Karingal.
Chief Inspector Robert Sales of the QCPD, meanwhile, said their Holy Week activities is part of their Lenten reflection to commemorate the death and sacrifices of Christ.
鈥淭his is to reflect on our sins and commemorate the sacrifices and death of Jesus Christ,鈥 Sales said.
He assured the public that they are always ready to sacrifice to maintain peace and order in the country.
According to him, peace and order during this year鈥檚 observance of the Holy week is generally peaceful.
鈥淥ur police are always ready to sacrifice to ensure peace and order,鈥 he said.
