MANILA, Philippines – A low pressure area (LPA) off Aurora Province was seen to dissipate on Friday, but the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said that the weather disturbance would bring rains in the province.

In its evening weather bulletin, Pagasa said Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas would experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains.

Senior weather forecaster Jori Loiz said that as of 4 p.m., Thursday, the LPA was estimated at 550 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora.

But he said that the LPA could soon dissipate as it could be absorbed by the approaching tropical depression, which on Thursday was somewhere southeast of Guam.

It added that the other parts of the country would be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, a tropical cyclone near Guam could enter the country’s area of responsibility by Sunday, Pagasa said.

Forecasters said that the tropical depression could intensify into a storm as it approaches the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

“The tropical depression could further intensify as it approaches the PAR,” Loiz said, adding that the weather bureau is closely tracking its movement.

Loiz said that while it was possible that the tropical cyclone could enter the PAR on Sunday, when it would be named “Florita,” it will not yet have a direct effect on the country because of its distance but it could enhance the habagat or southwest monsoon.

In Pagasa’s forecast for Friday, Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, the Bicol region and the Eastern Visayas will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms while the rest of the country is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds will prevail over Luzon where coastal waters will be moderate to rough while light to moderate winds will prevail over the rest of the country with slight seas. With a report from Jeannette Andrade, Philippine Daily Inquirer
