Senators powerless over brownouts caused by ‘Glenda’

MANILA, Philippines –Even senatorswere not spared by the wrathof Typhoon “Glenda” (international name:Rammasun) as some of them were hit by brownouts Wednesday.

SenatorsSergeOsmeña, LorenLegardaand GracePoe were amongthemillions of Filipinoswho experienced power outages at theheight of thetyphoon.

Osmeñasaid they hadno electricityandcablesignals Wednesday thoughpower was restored in the evening.

“We still have no TV today,” he said in a text message on Thursday.

Sincehe could not still watch television,Osmeñasaid hejust spent his time doing what he likes most: reading.

“I like to read – news, business journals, non-fiction, classics, thrillers,”he said.

Whilethey alsohad no electricity during the typhoon,Legardasaid this did not bother her since she said she does not use air-con anyway.

“Brownout so oklangbecauseI never watch TV and I do not use air-con sosanayakonano power (It was brownout, but it was ok because I never watch TV and I do not use air-con so I am used to having no power),”she said in a separate text message.

“I justworked on my papers and monitoredmy staffvia cellphone. I monitored news via radio. Today, I’m cleaning up all fallen trees and branches as chief gardener. I amalso planning feeding missions for affected communities inNCR andRegions 3 and 4a,” she said.

Legardasaid they were also cleaning up canals andrecyclingfallen trees.

Poe, in another text message, saidthey also experiencedbrownoutsfrom 6 a.m.until 5 p.m. Wednesday.
