Fact-checking causes delay in filing of cases vs more ‘pork’ suspects

MANILA, Philippines—The tedious process of fact checking by the National Bureau of Investigation causes delay in the filing of charges against the third batch of suspects in the P10-billion pork barrel scam, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima said Wednesday.

“Double checking information is not easy especially if transactions were done through agents,” De Lima told reporters.

“So we are trying to double check if there was really receipt of kickbacks by the concerned lawmakers directly or indirectly. Now, even if through agents that could be done,” De Lima said.

Earlier reports said that Technical Education and Skills Development Authority chief Joel Villanueva and Senator Gringo Honasan are among those included in the third batch of politicians and private individuals who allegedly misused their  Priority Development Assistance Fund.

“We want to make sure that when we transmit the complaint to the Ombudsman, it will confirm our findings and will not be diluted,” De Lima said.
