MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon “Jose” (international name “Halong”) intensified as it continued to move west northwest of the Philippines, the state weather bureau said Sunday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 11 a.m. Bulletin that the typhoon has “gained more strength” and was last located 1,100 kilometers east ofCasiguran, Aurora.
The typhoon packed maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 220 kph.
“Estimated rainfall amount is from 10 – 25 mm (millimeter) per hour (heavy – intense) within the 650 km diameter of the Typhoon,”Pagasasaid.
However, “Jose” has yet to affect any part of the country, although the southwest monsoon is expected to bring occasional rains over Metro Manila, Central Luzon,IlocosRegion,CalabarzonandMimaropa.
The typhoon is projected to reach 870 kilometers east ofCasiguranon Monday morning then 800 kilometers east northeast ofAparri, Cagayan by Tuesday morning.
Pagasasaid “Jose” was expected to be at 800 kilometers east northeast ofBasco,Batanesby Monday.
