MANILA, Philippines 鈥� 鈥淢y father will not听stoop down to his level,鈥� Senator听Nancy听Binay听on Wednesday said of Senator听Antonio 鈥淪onny鈥澨齌rillanes听IV.
She issued the statement as she thumbed down听Trillanes鈥� proposal that听Vice President听Jejomar听Binay听should face the Senate听investigation into the听alleged听鈥渙verpriced鈥澨齝arpark听building in Makati City.
It was听Trillanes听who filed a resolution asking the Senate to look into the听issue involving the听Vice President and his son, Makati Mayor听Jejomar听Erwin 鈥淛un-Jun鈥澨鼴inay.听The Senate is set to start its inquiry next week.
But Senator听Binay听said there was no need to听invite the Vice President since her brother听had already听answered the allegations.
鈥淗indi听na听ho mayor ng Makati听ang听aking听ama. Hindi听n鈥檡a听ho听ka-level听si听Senator听Trillanes. He鈥檚 the Vice President of the Philippines. My father will not stoop down to his level,鈥� she听said in an interview听over DWIZ.
(My father is no longer the mayor of Makati. He is not on the same level as Senator听Trillanes. He鈥檚 the Vice President of the Philippines. My father will not stoop down to his level.)
The lady senator also noted听how听Trillanes听treated invited previous听resource persons to a congressional inquiry, citing as example as the case of the late Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes.
鈥淢y father has to also protect the dignity of his office.听Ang听hamon听ko听nga听ho ay听ang听tamang听proseso听is the impeachment court听kasi听may courtesy听nga听hong听binibigay听sa听President听pati听na听rin听sa听Vice President,鈥� she said.
(My father also has to protect the dignity of his office. That鈥檚 why I dare him that the right process should be in the impeachment court because a certain courtesy should be given to the President and the Vice President.)
Senator听Binay听said听she was serious when she dared听Trillanes听Tuesday to just file an impeachment complaint against the Vice President.
鈥淪abi听ko听nga听magpakalalaki听at听magpakatotoo听si听Senator听Trillanes听kasi听鈥榶ung听ginawa听n鈥檡ang听resolution,听hindi听sya听in aid of legislation, it鈥檚 a demolition job against my father,鈥� she said.
(As I said, Senator听Trillanes听should be a man and get real because his resolution is not in aid of legislation, but a demolition job against my father.)
She noted听that听Trillanes鈥� resolution听was full听of听graft and听corruption听allegations, which she said should be addressed in an impeachment proceeding听since the Vice President is an impeachable officer.
