Bondal: Cakes, other buildings also overpriced in Makati

MANILA, Philippines 鈥� More听alleged overpriced projects in Makati City, including the cost of cakes, were bared during听a Senate听hearing on Wednesday by one of the听complainants against听City Mayor听Jejomar听Erwin 鈥淛unjun鈥澨鼴inay.

Atty. Renato听Bondal听claimed during the hearing of the Senate blue ribbon committee that the price of听cakes being听given to senior citizens in the city by the local government听amounted to P1,000 each compared to the P570 cakes in听Red Ribbon and听P590听in Goldilocks.

But听Binay, who was present at the hearing, said听the price mentioned by听Bondal听was not the price 鈥渞eflected鈥� in their documents.

Before this,听Bondal听claimed that听other听projects in Makati, aside from the听carpark听building which was the subject of their cases against听the mayor and his father, Vice President听Jejomar听Binay,听were allegedly overpriced.

鈥淚to pong Makati City hall, 鈥榶an听po听ay听nagkakalahaga听ng P7听bilyon, 鈥榶an听po听ay overpriced din.听Ang听Osmak听(Ospital听ng Makati) 1,听sa听amin听pong听dokomento,听sa听phase 2 pa听lang听ay nakaka-P2 billion听na.听Phase 2 pa la ng听po听鈥榶un.听听Hanggang听ngayon听ginagawa听pa听rin听yan,鈥澨鼴ondal听said.

(The Makati City Hall costs P7 billion, that is overpriced. The phase 2 of听Ospital听ng Makati, in our documents already costs P2 billion. That鈥檚 just the phase 2. Until now, it is still being constructed.)

鈥溾€橸ang Makati Science听po,听isa听pa听rin听鈥榶an听sa听mga听overpriced听na听mga听building,鈥澨� he added.

鈥淟ahat听po听ng听pangunahing听infrastructures ay听nadaadan听sa听mga听鈥榗hop-chop鈥� at听mga听utang听sa听Land Bank.听Kaya听po听ngayon听ang听Makati听pwede听n鈥檡o听pong听tawaging听鈥榗hop-chop鈥� capital of the Philippines,鈥滲ondal听added.

(Makati Science is also included among the overpriced buildings. All the top infrastructures are funded by split debts from the Land Bank. So Makati can be called as the 鈥榗hop-chop鈥� capital of the Philippines.)

Bondal听said the Makati听government managed听to jack up the prices of their projects听in the city because it allegedly splits the contracts, and did not go through bidding.

The hearing was initiated by Senator Antonio听Trillanes听IV to look into the alleged overpriced new Makati City Hall II parking building.
