MANILA, Philippines –Malacañangon Tuesday said it is banking on the “sense of fairness” of the House of Representatives as it tackles impeachment complaints filed against PresidentBenignoAquino III.
“Nananalig naman pokamisakakayahanngatingmgamambabatas, sa kanilang paggamit ng katuwiranatsakanilangsense of fairness nasilaaynagagawin ponila angnararapat sa kanilang pagaaralngmgapanukalangito,” Communications SecretaryHerminio“Sonny” Coloma Jr. said in an interview withRadyoInquirer 990AM.
(We trust the ability of our lawmakers, their use of reason and their sense of fairness that they will do what is right as they study such proposals.)
The House committee on justice is tackling on Tuesday the three impeachment raps filed against the President.
Committee chairperson Iloilo RepresentativeNielTupasJr. earlier said that they deferred meeting until after the holidays to give committee members enough time to study the complaints.
Two of the charges questioned Aquino’s Disbursement Acceleration Program, which was declared partly unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, while the third tackled the country’s Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement with the United States.
The first impeachment rap has already been found by 53 members of the House committee on justice sufficient in form.
