Senate starts MRT-3 probe

MANILA, Philippines – The Senate on MondayÌýbegan itsÌýinquiry into the current state of the country’sÌýpublic andÌýmass transport system following an accident met by a Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) train in August that injured at leastÌý38 people.

SeveralÌýsenatorsÌýlike Sonny Angara, NancyÌýBinay,ÌýBam Aquino andÌýAqulinoÌýPimentel III initiated the investigation at the SenateÌýafterÌýthe MRT-3 overshotÌýthe tracksÌýat the Taft Avenue station at the corner ofÌýEdsaÌýand Taft Avenue in Pasay City.

SenatorÌýGrace Poe,Ìýwho presidesÌýover the hearing, rodeÌýthe MRT-3 last Friday without media fanfare toÌýprepare for Monday’s hearing by the SenateÌýcommittee on public services.
