MANILA, Philippines鈥擲enate President Franklin Drilon听took the ice bucket challenge on Monday morning.

Drilon听was just among the growing number of politicians like fellow senators Sonny Angara and Bam Aquino who have accepted the challenge of having buckets of ice and ice-cold water dumped onto them to raise awareness on the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

He was nominated by Iloilo Representative听Niel听Tupas. In Turn,听Drilon听tagged听Gawad听Kalinga听founder Antonio 鈥淭ony鈥澨齅eloto, ABS-CBN Foundation managing director Gina Lopez, and Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce President Alfonso听Sy.

According to the ALS Association in America, ALS 鈥渋s a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to (the patient鈥檚) death.鈥

Although not giving any details as to the exact amount, Drilon said that he will be donating to the Philippine General Hospital鈥檚 Neurosciences Center.
