MANILA, Philippines 鈥� Businessman Antonio Tiu听failed to听present听documents听during a Senate听hearing听on Wednesday to prove听that he owned the听controversial 350-hectare听property in Batangas, saying what he only bought听so far was the 鈥榰sufruct鈥� or the听right to听use the听land.
Testifying听for the first time before听the听Senate听blue ribbon听subcommittee,听Tiu听explained his businesses and how his听Greenergy听Holdings听Inc. bought听the majority shares听of听the听Sunchamp Real Estate Development听Corp., operating听the听Batangas property.
Tiu听was tagged as the听alleged dummy of Vice听President听Jejomar听Binay,听who was allegedly听the real owner听of the property.
After Tiu鈥檚 presentation, subcommittee chairman, Senator听Aquilino 鈥淜oko鈥� Pimentel听III asked the businessman if听he was听done听with听his explanation to which he said 鈥測es鈥�.
鈥淵an na yun? Yun ang explanation mo? Yun na yun?鈥澨齈imentel听asked again.
鈥淪imple lang po ako Mr.听Chairman. Ako po ay negosyante, pag-aari ko yung Greenergy,听pag aari ng Greenergy ang Sunchamp, pag-aari ng Sunchamp ang听Rosario (property),鈥� Tiu, said听referring to the Batangas property.
鈥淲alang mga TCT? Wala kang pinapakita na TCT o kahit ano?,鈥� Pimentel said. TCT is听transfer of certificate of title.
鈥淢r. Chairman, ang nabili ko yung usufruct听of the land. Yung听TCT upon the completion after nai-turn over sa akin, saka nila matatangap yugn next tranche na payment,鈥� Tiu explained.
鈥淪o you鈥檙e not the owner听sa ngayon?鈥� Pimentel听asked to which the businessman answered: 鈥淚鈥檓 the owner over the rights.鈥�
And when听Pimentel insisted听that he was not yet听the owner of the property,听Tiu said: 鈥淢agiging owner听din听po tayo 鈥︹��
Senator Antonio听Trillanes IV then听asked听the businessman听why he was claiming听in various听media interviews听that he was owner of the property.
Tiu said it was because听he听owned the听farm, explaining that听ownership听of听the land听was different from听ownership of the farm.
But Pimentel said, 鈥淲ell sa mata namin, hindi ikaw ang may- ari sa ngayon. So why are you here Mr. Tiu? Why are you here?鈥�
