MANILA, Philippines–Authorities opened up entry points to Quirino Grandstand following the scuffle of pilgrims early morning Sunday.

From 30 entrances it was increased to 72, Philippine National Police (PNP) OIC Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina said.

“By the sheer volume of people who want to occupy the quadrants, we opened more entrances from 30 to 72,” Espina said at a press briefing.

Espina said 27,000 police were deployed in the area. A total of 40 LED television sets have been installed as well.

After the event, he appealed to the pilgrims not to block the south side of the Quirino Grandstand where the Pope will make his exit.
