Palace: ‘Straight path’ better than ‘fast path’

Responding to the jab taken by Vice President Jejomar Binay at the “daang matuwid” (straight path) slogan flaunted by the Aquino administration for the past five years, Malacañang said its platform of reform and good governance is “tried and tested.”

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a press briefing that it is possible to have an honest and corruption-free governance under President Aquino.

“And we are certain that the benefits reached the people and not the pockets of politicians,” Valte said.

The media sought the Palace reaction to Binay’s claim that what the country needs is a “fast path” to growth and development at the launch of Go Negosyo’s “Presidentiables” Series.

Binay hit the lack of inclusiveness in the “inclusive growth” being brandished by the Aquino administration.

The Liberal Party-led “Daang Matuwid Coalition” is running on a platform of continuity of the good governance begun by President Aquino in 2010.

The coalition envisions a “6-12-18 strategy” that would ensure the growth and development of the country. Under this strategy, standard-bearer Mar Roxas will lead for six years, supported by a Vice President who would be ripe to be President in 2022.

President Aquino and Roxas eventually chose Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo to the LP vice presidential bet after the party were turned down by neophyte Sen. Grace Poe, who chose to run for President.
