Vendor selling fake cigarettes arrested
POLICEMEN arrested a woman selling fake Mighty cigarettes, other tobacco brands and household items in Coastal Anabu, Imus in Cavite.
In his report to officer in charge Cavite Police Director Senior Supt. Mafelino Bazar, Imus Police Chief Supt. Red Maranan said the woman was nabbed while selling fake Mighty Menthols 100s and other cigarette brands.
Also seized from the suspect were soaps and vetsins which she initially admitted as counterfeit household items.
The woman, who is in her mid-40s, is currently detained at the Imus police station after a representative from Mighty Corp. confirmed that the cigarettes were bogus and after she was charged with violating Republic Act No. 8293 or the Trademark Infringement and Unfair Competition Law.
Police temporarily withheld the name of the arrested vendor pending the results of follow up operations.
The vendor’s arrest came after policemen in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija detained a suspect for supplying fake cigarettes to sari-sari stores in the city.
San Jose City Police Station Chief Supt. Nolie Q. Azuncion said his team responded to complaints from some wholesale stores that a vendor of fake Mighty and Marvels cigarettes was circulating around the city.
The suspect was nabbed on board a tricycle carrying fake Mighty and Marvels cigarette brands, Azuncion said.
