Makati hotel ‘regrets’ falling debris incident, assures public safety

The management of Ayala Hotels Inc. on Friday said measures were being taken to assure public safety on the site of what used to be the Mandarin Oriental Hotel after an Australian woman was hit by falling debris.

In a statement, the management said the foreigner was immediately brought to Makati Medical Center and given proper medical attention, adding passengers of a damaged vehicle were also brought to the hospital for examination.

“We regret that this incident happened and we assure the public that we are continuously taking measures to ensure the safety of the surrounding area and the well-being of all people affected,” said Al Legaspi, president of Ayala Hotels Inc. “At the same time, we have asked the contractor on site, JLC Construction, to provide a full account of the incident.”

The management also requested pedestrians and motorists to take alternate routes, as a portion of Paseo de Roxas was closed to traffic due to the incident.
