Mother and son run over, killed by truck in Mandaue City

CEBU CITY, Philippines — A mother and her four-year-old son were killed after a dump truck ran them over, shortly before 11 a.m. on Thursday along ML Quezon Street. in Barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City.

Jenalyn Estenzo, 35, and her son Jay, 4, were declared dead on arrival at the Mandaue District Hospital.

SPO4 Vicente Binabaye, deputy chief of the Mandaue City Police Traffic Division, said that based on their investigation, the truck driven by Anastacio Hermida, 49, was traveling along ML Quezon Street and was  heading to AC Cortes Street at 10:45 a.m. when the mother and son suddenly crossed the road.

When Hermida saw the two, he added, it was already too late to hit the brakes.

“Rescuers found them (Jenalyn and Jay) under the truck,” Binabaye said.

Paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation immediately brought the two victims to the hospital but doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.
