WATCH: De Lima political ad in film noir style

CANDIDATES are seemingly becoming more creative in their political ads.

After Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s “threatening” Christmas message, former justice secretary Leila de Lima’s camp recently released a black and white political advertisement in support of her senate run.

Shot in film noir style, the first half of the video features an Italian bar where a group of seemingly powerful people talk about influencing officials. At one point, the camera focuses on a man doing drugs.

“Binayaran ko na ang dapat bayaran (I already paid for the things that need to be paid for),” a woman says.

“Pinangakuan ko na sya ng mataas na posisyon (I offered him a high position),” a man in a white suit tells the group after asking a waitress to sit on his lap.

“Okay na tayo. Walang gagalaw sa atin (We’re safe. No one will bother us),” another man says just before a suitcase filled with money is presented before them.

“Regalo ni boss (A gift from boss),” the man holding the suitcase announces.

When the group leaves, however, the silhouette of a woman is shown.

It is later revealed to be De Lima.

The former justice secretary pulls a chain, which makes a cage appear, putting the three behind bars.
