MANILA, Philippines — An 81-mm mortar still capable of exploding was unearthed in the Delpan sports complex on Saturday afternoon.

The mortar, believed to have been used during World War II, remained intact. It was discovered when construction worker Sonny Boy Valentin accidentaly hit it with a shovel about 3 p.m.

Valentin was part of the group that was tasked to renovate a portion of the complex.

Members of the Manila Police District-Explosives and Ordnance Division (EOD) went to the site and confirmed it was an ammunition usually called a vintage bomb.  SFM
