The campagin period for local positions will start on Black Saturday, March 26, and not on Good Friday, the Commission on Elections said.
鈥淟ocal campaigns start March 25. Will you tell your partymates not to violate campaign rules?鈥� Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said on his Twitter account.
鈥淭hey [candidates] should actually start campaigning March 26 because campaigning is prohibited on Good Friday,鈥� he said.
鈥淚f anyone鈥擜NYONE鈥攚hines how the local campaign period should be extended by 1 day 鈥檆oz it starts on Good Friday鈥� Wala, tatawanan ko lang (I鈥檒l just laugh it off),鈥� Jimenez said.
Local elective positions include those for the House of Representatives, governors, mayors, provincial board members, and city and municipal councilors.
Jimenez also urged candidates and their supporters to tear down illegally posted campaign materials before March 25.
