Power restored at Naia-3 after 5-hour outage

Electricity is back at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia)-Terminal 3 after a five-hour power outage.

In an update posted at the Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) Facebook page early Sunday, full power was restored to the terminal at 2 a.m.

Airport authorities said a Meralco substation “tripped” and caused the terminal to lose power at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday.

“The substation was able to relay stable power to the terminal starting 12:30 a.m.. Terminal facilities were fully functional an hour and half later,” the Miaa’s statement read.

The Miaa apologized to passengers affected by the outage.

“The Airport Authority apologizes for this inconvenience. Measures are now being worked out to make sure that a power outage does not occur again in the future,” the statement read.

During the outage, passengers were stranded inside planes for hours before they were allowed to disembark.

Miaa spokesperson David de Castro said passengers were also “manually processed for check-in.” With reports from Miguel Camus, Philippine Daily Inquirer Business
