MANILA 鈥 The Ayala-led Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) on Monday refused to further comment on presidential bet Rodrigo Duterte鈥檚 alleged bank accounts, citing client confidentiality.
鈥淏ank of the Philippine Islands will not make any comment as regards this morning鈥檚 discussion involving prominent politicians at our Julia Vargas, Pasig City branch. To do so would be against the basic banking principles of client confidentiality,鈥 BPI said in a statement.
The bank vowed to continue 鈥減rotecting client information and preserving the trust bestowed on us by our clients all these years.鈥
BPI last Friday denied it was the source of information on bank accounts, which vice presidential candidate, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, had alleged to belong to Duterte.
Duterte鈥檚 lawyer, Salvador Panelo, asked the BPI on Monday to issue a certification that at no time did Duterte have P211 million in his BPI account as alleged by Trillanes.聽 The BPI said it would need a week to
decide on the special request. 聽SFM
