Magnitude 7.2 quake strikes off Taiwan

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck 73 kilometres northeast of Keelung City at 1:23 p.m. Tuesday (May 31), according to the Central Weather Bureau.

The quake, which struck at a depth of 271.3 kilometers and caused buildings to shake throughout Taiwan, was felt strongest in Yilan, Hualien and Nantou (intensity 4.0) and Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Miaoli, Hsinchu, Taichung and Yunlin (intensity 3.0).

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
