Sudden downpour snarls traffic, strands passengers

A SUDDEN downpour on Monday night flooded some parts of聽Metro Manila, causing traffic jams and stranding passengers rushing home.

At past 8 p.m., the state weather agency said a聽thunderstorm was affecting聽Metro Manila particularly in Quezon City, Paranaque, Taguig, Makati, Pasay, Manila, Mandaluyong, Pasig and Marikina which could last for 2 hours.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority issued flood warnings to advise motorists which roads were passable and impassable.

鈥淎s of 8:31 PM, Pasong Tamo Tunnel Magallanes both direction. Waist deep. Not passable to all types of vehicles,鈥 MMDA said in a Twitter post.

It added that as of 8:31 p.m., 鈥淓dsa Taft Rotonda Savemore south band has gutter deep floodwaters but 鈥減assable to all types of vehicles.鈥

Traffic in some parts of Edsa was heavy following the downpour.

Stranded passengers took to Twitter to vent their frustrations.

Adrian Chuayap 鈥廆ianchuayap聽 said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 more baha in the Philippines!鈥

鈥淥LRAYT GRABE BAHA ALONG TAFT AVE. TAFT AVENUE WATERPARK NA ITU. RAK,鈥 said Sace Natividad 鈥廆Sace_Natividad.

Meanwhile, CATH 鈥廆CathTaroma聽 reported: 鈥淕rabe yung baha. Nakakadiri!鈥

Joleen Bandola 鈥廆joleengxx gave a description of the road situation in their area: 鈥淪obrang lakas ng ulan, baha pa hahaha lusong pa more!鈥

To cope with being stranded, heisenBER 鈥廆berenbello 聽tweeted:聽鈥淜akalimutan ko na lang na na-stranded ako sa market market ng isa鈥檛 kalating oras dahil sa lakas ng ulan.鈥

Another stranded worker, Zaney 鈥廆hanniYEY, said:聽鈥渟tranded sa office. ang saya po neto. bago na ang address ko.鈥
