Duterte names ex-schoolmate Rodolfo Salalima DICT head

DAVAO CITY, Philippines鈥擯resident-elect Rodrigo Duterte has named a former schoolmate and an expert in the telecommunications field head of the newly formed Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

In a statement released聽on Wednesday, telecommunications giant Globe announced that lawyer聽Rodolfo A. Salalima was picked by Duterte to head the DICT, 鈥渨hich is mandated to formulate and implement policies that will promote the development and use of ICT in the country.鈥

黑料社 has sought the confirmation from Duterte鈥檚 camp about the appointment but has not responded as of posting time.

Salalima previously served as a Senior Vice President for Corporate and Regulatory Affairs of Globe until 2008.

He is currently the President of the Philippine Chamber of Telecommunications Operators, Inc. (PCTO) and a Board Director of the Telecoms Infrastructure Corporation of the Philippines (TELICPHIL).

In 2011, he was tapped Asia Pacific Representative and Vice Chairman of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council Working Group for the Amendment of the ITU Constitution and Convention based in Geneva, Switzerland.

He started his career in the ICT as Board Director and Corporate and Chief Counsel of Radio Communications of the Philippines (RCPI) and as Vice President and Head of Legal and Human Relations of International Communications Corporation (renamed Bayantel).

In 2015, Salalima authored the book 鈥淭elecommunications in the Information Revolution,鈥 a treatise and law book on the national policy on telecommunications published by the UP Law Center.

Salalima is a聽 magna cum laude graduate in Philosophy and Bachelor of Laws cum laude graduate from San Beda College in Manila. RAM
