/ 07:10 PM July 26, 2016

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has approved the granting of financial assistance to the kin of election workers who died in the line of duty during the May elections.

In a memorandum, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez cited the case of Private First Class Louiden Quebec, who was killed in an ambush in Northern Samar while securing vote counting machines.

Also cited was poll clerk Caren Joy Mediola Miraña, VCM coordinator Mohammad Jayfer Abbas, and utility clerk Manuel Salgado, who died of extreme exhaustion and cardiac arrest while performing election duties.

Jimenez added that the poll body would give financial assistance to PFC Michael Cagata, who was wounded in the same ambush that killed Quebec.
