CAMP CAPINPIN, RIZAL 鈥 Public safety or the lives of criminals?

President Duterte on Wednesday defended anew his administration鈥檚 no-nonsense war against illegal drugs.

At the same time, Duterte blasted his critics, particularly the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), which has repeatedly warned聽of possible abuses in the administration鈥檚 bloody crackdown on crime.

鈥淚tong mga human rights, mamili ka. Is it the comfort or safety of the population or the lives of criminals?鈥 he said during his speech at the 2nd Infantry Battalion here.

The President said that his 鈥渂rutal鈥 stance against illegal drugs will continue because the illegal drugs trade is 鈥渄estroying the country.鈥

In blasting his detractors, Duterte said: 鈥淚tong mga (critics), pag humaharap na, ganito..lumalaki bunganga pati ulo. They talk nonsense.鈥

鈥淲e鈥檙e supposed to protect the integrity of the Republic and the safety of the citizens,鈥 he added.

The President also expressed dismay at how his critics magnify the over a thousand killed in the government鈥檚 war against illegal drugs.

鈥淲alang libre sa buhay na 鈥榯o. There鈥檚 always a price to pay,鈥 he said.
