Parts of extreme northern Luzon were placed under signal no. 1 on Friday morning due to Typhoon Gener (international name Malakas).
The typhoon slightly intensified as it continued to move northwest, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
Signal No. 1 was raised over Batanes and Northern Cagayan including Babuyan Group of Islands.
Gener was last located 405 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan. It packed maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 185 kph.
The typhoon was moving at 24 kph in a northwest track. CDG
