PSG probes former De Lima aide鈥檚 alleged link to Bilibid drug trade

The Presidential Security Group (PSG) is investigating the alleged involvement of one of its members in the illegal drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), its spokesman said聽on Wednesday.

Lt. Colonel Michael Aquino said the PSG has conducted an investigation on Sergeant Jonel Sanchez, a former security aide of Sen. Leila de Lima, who allegedly served as her bagman of the drug money for the senator.

鈥淯pon hearing his implication on the House inquiry regarding Senator de Lima, the command immediately conducted an investigation effective 18 September 2016,鈥 Aquino told reporters in Malaca帽ang.

During the House inquiry聽on Tuesday, convicted robber Herbert Colanggo said Sanchez has delivered drug money to de Lima for her senatorial bid.

鈥淭o ensure his safety, PSG has Sgt Sanchez confined to barracks for the investigation,鈥 Aquino said.

The spokesman refused to give any details on their ongoing investigation.

鈥淭he command cannot give further details as of this time since we do not want to pre-empt the investigation that is being undertaken by the House of the Representatives,鈥 he said.

Aquino said the PSG command was willing to present Sanchez at the House inquiry if he would be invited.

鈥淵es, we will fully cooperate. Any investigation that will help for the investigation, we will cooperate,鈥 he said.
