Union leader slain in QC

A Union leader was shot dead in front of the National Labor Relations Commission office in Quezon City on Friday.

Edilberto Miralles, 65, a resident of Barangay Pasong Tamo, was shot in the head by a motorcycle back rider on Banawe Street, Barangay Sto. Domingo, around 8:30 a.m., Supt. Tomas Nuñez, Quezon City Police District-La Loma Station chief, said.

Miralles, a former employee of R&E taxi, was on his way to an NLRC  hearing when he was  shot. Other ex-employees involved in the labor case were then waiting for him.

Allan Tanjusay, spokesperson of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines, called for an immediate investigation.

“We are alarmed because last week, Sept. 17, Orlando Abangan, also a union organizer, was shot and killed by an unknown assailant in Talisay, Cebu,” he said.
