MANILA — Cases of possession of illegal firearms, ammunitions and illegal drugs will be filed against a former optometrist who eluded arrest when his house was raided by Quezon City policemen on Wednesday.

Joselito Sanga managed to escape through an access door leading to a storage room connected to his residence at No. 43-E N. Domingo Street, Barangay Valencia.

Members of the District Special Operation Unit conducted the raid at around 7 a.m. after a search warrant was issued by Judge Bernelito Fernandez of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 97 against the suspect, who was allegedly involved in gunrunning.

FEATURED STORIES

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director, Senior Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, presented to the media on Thursday morning the seized firearms from Sanga’s residence, which included a .45-pistol, a .22-gun, three Airsoft guns, three silencers and a smoke grenade. Three sachets of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) were also found inside his home.

Eleazar added that they earlier received information that Sanga was involved in gunrunning activities and had in his possession several firearms. Sanga was still in his residence on Tuesday night based on police surveillance.

“The police found different types of firearms inside his home including airsoft guns and gun silencers,” Eleazar added.

Investigation is ongoing why Sanga, a known drug user, was keeping firearms and bullets in his home, according to Eleazar.  SFM/rga
