MANILA — Employees of a bus company were stunned when they came across nearly 10 kilos of marijuana in one of the unclaimed boxes in their terminal in Quezon City.

The Quezon City Police District said employees of the Florida Bus company, located along Edsa in Barangay West Kamias, were sorting out unclaimed baggage for disposal recently, when they opened an allegedly suspicious-looking cardboard box.

Upon inspection, they were surprised to discover 10 bricks of dried marijuana leaves inside.

The dried marijuana was worth around P130,000 and was turned over to the District Anti-Illegal Drugs-Special Operations Task Group for investigation.

Senior Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, QCPD director, said the contraband looked like it had been left behind months ago.

“We still don’t know who is responsible for this, but we will let our crime laboratory do its examination,” he told the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Tuesday.

The box had the name “Ermillinda G. Torres” written on it with a black marker pen, but Eleazar said they would verify this information as these names were usually fictitious.

The police chief noted that this was the biggest haul of marijuana they confiscated from a bus terminal since the beginning of the war on drugs.  SFM
