2 cops tagged in anti-crime crusader’s slay transferred to regular jail

CITY OF CALAPAN — Almost two months after the killing of anti-crime crusader Zenaida Luz, the two police officials suspected of killing her were transported from the private hospital where they were initially held under arrest to the Gloria municipal police station for detention on Wednesday afternoon.
Gloria Police Chief Insp. Ruelito Fronda led the transport of Senior Insp. Magdalino Pimentel Jr. and Insp. Markson Almeranez in a patrol vehicle from the Medical Mission Group (MMG) Hospital where they were treated after they sustained gunshot wounds in an exchange of fire with responding police on Oct. 9.
The police officers, while wearing wigs and masks, allegedly shot dead Luz in front of her house in Barangay Maligaya, Gloria, Oriental Mindoro while riding tandem on a motorcycle.
Pimentel was officer at the Oriental Mindoro Police Public Safety Company, while Almeranez was police chief of Socorro town before he was relieved following the attack.
Mimaropa National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) regional officer lawyer Owen de Luna earlier assured the public that Pimentel and Almeranez were being closely guarded.
The murder cases filed against the policemen are non-bailable and they will prevail over the charges of direct assault, which are of less gravity. SFM
