Public schools to reopen Thursday
The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday reiterated that classes in all public kindergarten, elementary and high schools nationwide resume on Thursday and not the day before as some schools had reportedly scheduled.
In an advisory, the DepEd said that all public schools nationwide must follow the official school calendar which mandates that the midterm break ends on November 2 and the second term of the school year begins on November 3.
Private schools may make their own schedules as long as they comply with the required 180 days of learning, the DepEd said.
“Regular classes in all public elementary and secondary schools will resume on November 3, Thursday, as stated in the official calendar of activities for the school year 2011-2012. The calendar, duly signed by Education Secretary Armin Luistro, is stipulated in DepEd Order No. 28, series of 2011, released last March 22, 2011,” the department said.
“It is compulsory for all public elementary and secondary schools to follow the official calendar. Private schools may opt to deviate from the calendar. However, they are required to comply with the 180 teaching-learning days,” it added.
