Judiciary now makes it Lejdac

04:43 AM February 03, 2017

Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III said this week that officials of the executive branch and Congress have discussed the revival of the Legislative Executive Judiciary Development Advisory Council (Lejdac), which convenes the three branches of government into a unified body, when key officials met on Monday to discuss legislative priorities.

The revival of the Lejdac is expected to pursue critical judicial reforms in a system long plagued by corruption and questions on the observance of due process by law enforcement authorities.

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno is expected to be  among the key judiciary representatives to be invited to the meeting.

A top-level gathering among all government branches was last held in 2009, when the body was still called the Joint Judiciary, Executive, and Legislative Advisory and Consultative Council. —TARRA QUISMUNDO
