Baguio ‘warmer’ after record low on Wednesday

BAGUIO CITY — The weather was warmer at 8 degrees Celsius Thursday morning after the record low 7.3 degrees yesterday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather station here.

Despite the slight rise in the mercury, the temperature on Feb. 16, 2017, was the coldest in 14 years and eighth lowest in the history of the country’s summer capital, Pagasa records showed.

Residents felt the same chilly 8 degrees on Feb. 1, 1982 and Jan. 18, 2003.

This mountain resort city has been shivering since last weekend when the mercury started to drop at 9.6 degrees on Feb. 11.

The nippy weather continued until it reached 7.3 degrees on Feb. 15, the coldest recorded by Pagasa since 1971.

Baguio, which is celebrating Panagbenga or the annual flower festival, is expecting an influx of tourists this weekend to experience the unusually cold mornings that they miss in the lowlands. CBB/rga
