Missing octogenarian Banahaw pilgrim found dead

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – An octogenarian pilgrim of Mount Banahaw who was reported missing was found dead in a river in Dolores town in Quezon province on Monday, police said Tuesday.

Villagers found the decomposing body of the victim, Gregorio Carpela, 87, a resident of San Pablo City, floating in a river in Barangay (village) Sta. Lucia around noontime. The victim was identified by his daughter, Maria.

Police said the old man accidentally fell in the river and drowned.

The victim was last seen alive on May 4 on his way towards one of the religious spots in Banahaw, a popular pilgrimage site, in Dolores.  SFM/rga
