ZAMBOANGA CITY鈥擯hilippine Marine soldiers on Monday recovered almost P76 million in cash and cheques kept in a vault in one of the houses of a local businessman in Marawi City, military officials announced Tuesday.
Brigadier General Custodio Parcon, commander of Task Group Marawi, told the INQUIRER that they recovered the cash and cheques during the military鈥檚 clearing operations against the Maute snipers and machine gun post on Saklot Street, Barangay Saduc in Marawi City.
Parcon said while the platoon of First Lieutenant Frederick Savellano, of the 37th Marine Company- Marine Battalion Landing Team 7 (MBLT7), 鈥渨as conducting clearing operations, they recovered P52.2 million (in cash) and stale cheques worth P23,776,386.71.鈥
The soldiers also recovered an M16 Armalite rifle from the house that was used as sniper鈥檚 post.
Parcon said the house belongs to Mariam Kouzbary Batara Dimaocor, owner of the company GM ROL-MAR Construction and Development.
But Parcon said they still could not say if Dimaocor has links with the terrorist group.
