Ozamiz City Police Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido is optimistic that with the fall of the Parojinog clan, Ozamiz City will bloom like Cebu City.

“It [Ozamiz City] will develop like Cebu City [which is] very developed. Lalabas ang potential (Their potential will be realized),” Espenido told reporters Tuesday.

He said for decades even former head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has been trying to fight the Parojinogs “pero hindi nila nakuha (but they failed to get them).”

“But because of God, He gave us wisdom; we were able to nail them. Justice has been done,” Espenido said.

Espenido attended the preliminary investigation at the Department of Justice (DOJ) on the murder and serious illegal detention filed against him and three others for an operation conducted last June against members of the Martilyo Gang.

Espenido and other respondents — Chief Inspector Glyndo Lagrimas, Senior Police Officer 4 Renato Martir Jr. and Police Officer 1 Sandra Louise Nadayag — were given up to Aug. 29 to submit their counter-affidavit.

He branded the complaint as harassment and lamented why it was filed in Manila instead of in the provinces, inconveniencing him and his co-respondents.

“This is not true. This is harassment. We are only doing our job,” he said.

The complaint accused the policemen of rubout in killing the suspects during the series of raids in Cabinti and Balintawak villages last June 1 where six other suspects were arrested.

Espenido also led the predawn raid, which resulted in the killing of Ozamiz Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog, his wife and 14 others last July 30. JE
