Jolo councilor hostage of Abu Sayyaf freed

A municipal councilor in Jolo, Sulu who was abducted by the Abu Sayyaf last September has been freed, the military said Thursday.

Brigadier General Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Joint Task Force Sulu, said Zed Tan was released around 9:29 p.m. on Wednesday in Brgy. Buru, Talipao town.

“He underwent medical examination at Camp Bautista Station Hospital in Jolo,” he added.

The official was in good physical condition except for some mosquito bites on his arms. He underwent a debriefing procedure before he was brought to his family.

Tan, a nephew of former Sulu vice governor Abdusakur Tan, was abducted while biking with friends at night in Indanan town last Sept. 27. /je
