NDRRMC: ‘Urduja’ death toll now at 41

Deaths from Tropical Depression “Urduja” (international name Kai-tak) rose to 41, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Tuesday.

In a press briefing, NDRRMC spokesperson Mina Marasigan, however, said the deaths are still subject to verification by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Twenty-eight of those killed were from Biliran, five from Leyte, three from Masbate, and one each in Eastern Samar, Camarines Norte, and Surigao del Norte.

Marasigan also said that a total of 12,682 families are still sheltered in 381 evacuation centers in Mimaropa, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Western Visayas, Centeral Visayas and Caraga.

A total of 118 passengers, five vessels, and eight motor bancas remained stranded in parts of Luzon and Visayas.

The NDRRMC has also recorded P548 million worth of damage to infrastructure, and P3 million to agriculture.
