Bong Go willing to attend Senate probe on PH Navy weapons program

Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go is willing to attend the possible Senate investigation into the P15.7-billion frigates acquisition project of the Philippine Navy if, in case, he would be invited.

“Oo, dadalo ako (Yes, I will attend),” Go said in a text message to reporters.

In another statement he sent to the media, Go said he was willing to face his accusers “anywhere, anytime.”

“Kung sakaling ipatawag man ako ng Senado hinggil sa frigate issue. Anywhere, anytime I’m willing to face the accusers,” he said.

He reiterated that the allegations that he meddled on the Navy’s selection of weapons system supplier were false.

“(The) accusations are false. Wala akong itinatago. Wala akong tinataguan at wala po akong alam tungkol sa issue na ‘yan (I don’t hide anything. I don’t hide from anyone and I know nothing about that issue),” he said.

“From the Halls of the Senate and Congress, to the Courts of Justice and even basketball courts, I will cooperate and face the false and malicious accusations against me,” he added.

Opposition senators have filed Resolution No. 584, directing the Senate committee on national defense and security and Congressional oversight committee on the AFP Modernization Act to examine the status of the AFP modernization program.

Malacañang earlier said it welcomed the possible Senate investigation to clear up every issue on the matter.

The INQUIRER earlier reported that Go had meddled in the Navy’s selection of the weapons system for the frigate project of the government.

The report said Go allegedly wanted Hanwha Thales (HTC) of South Korea to provide the combat management systems (CMS) over the Tacticos CMS of Thales Nederland Inc.

Go has denied interfering in the Department of National Defense’s selection of the Navy’s weapons system supplier. He said he would resign if the allegations against him could be proven true. /jpv
