Mayon volcano spewed a 1-kilometer height ash on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs) said.

At 11:56 a.m., Mayon Volcano generated a brownish gray ash plume going southwest from the crater of the volcano.

The Phivolcs noted that booming and rumbling sounds were heard at Ligñon Hill, located 11 km southeast of the volcano.

However, Phivolcs Science Research Specialist Maria Concepcion Barairo said the agency could not fully determine if the volcano also spewed lava because clouds were obscuring the view.

Phivolcs also observed a pyroclastic density current (PDC) heading towards Mi-isi and Bonga Gullies located one kilometer away from the summit.

PDC, as explained by Barairo, was the combination of steam, gas, lava, ash, and rocks that were ejected and rolled down from Mayon.
