Binay cautions couples against ‘rushing into marriage’

Standing by her position against divorce, Senator Nancy Binay has instead advised everyone against rushing into marriage.

“Huwag magmadaling magpakasal kasi mahirap makipaghiwalay,” Binay said in an interview at her officeon Thursday.

The senator made the remark when askedto comment on the proposed dissolution of marriage in the country which is moving forward in the House of Representatives as it starts its deliberations on it in theplenary.

ButBinayremained firmthat there was no needto have sucha measure asthere are already existing legal remedies available for “unhappy” couples such as annulmentand legalseparation.

When told how difficult it is to seek an annulment in the country, thesenator said: “E di ibig sabihin nun wag kang magpapakasal …”

House Bill No. 6027 or“An Act Providing for Grounds for the Dissolution of a Marriage” filed by Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez allows “irreconcilable differences” or “severe and chronic unhappiness” as grounds for marriage dissolution.
