Alleged ‘termite gang’ leader shot dead while onboard jeepney in Batangas

SAN PEDRO CITY – An alleged leader of a robbery gang was shot dead while onboard a passenger jeepney in Batangas City on Tuesday afternoon.

A report from the Batangas police identified the suspect as Manuel Banay, 24, a resident of Lipa City, Batangas.

According to initial investigation, Banay was on a passenger jeep when shot by four suspected gunmen onboard two motorcycles around 3:20 p.m. in Barangay 9.

Banay reportedly died on the spot.

Police said Banay was allegedly involved in a robbery of a pawnshop in the city this month, wherein burglars dug an underground tunnel in order to gain access into the establishment.
