Hours after his arrival from Saudi Arabia, a 47-year-old overseas Filipino worker was killed by an unidentified gunman in Pasig City on Monday evening.

In his report to the Eastern Police District, Pasig City police chief, Senior Supt. Orlando Yebra Jr., said that Ricardo Monteroyo, a resident of Centennial 2, Barangay Pinagbuhatan, was shot twice in the head on Bigasan Street in Barangay Caniogan around 8:20 p.m.

Yebra said that Monteroyo was walking with his relatives in an alley when a man came up to the victim and shot him.

According to PO2 Danilo Damasco, Monteroyo’s wife, Miraluna, told them that he had been getting death threats after his involvement in an investment scheme years ago.

“Sometime in 2015, he joined an investment, networking activity and recruited other people. The investment failed so the [investors] were after him. The wife learned about this in 2016,” Damasco said.

The victim worked as an electronics and communications engineer in Saudi Arabia for over 10 years, he added. Even while working abroad, he continued to receive death threats.

From the airport, the victim went straight to his cousin’s place. He was on his way to meet his wife when he was killed. The gunman who was wearing a ball cap escaped on foot, witnesses said.
