Duterte OK with new Senate building in Taguig

President Rodrigo Duterte has no problem with the Senate鈥檚 plan to construct a new building at Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City despite criticisms that this would cost the government a whopping P10 billion.

鈥淚 have no objection on that. Anywhere the Senate wants to build it, we will say amen,鈥 Duterte said in a press briefing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 2 shortly after his arrival from a three-day official trip to South Korea.

The Senate is currently renting space at the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) headquarters in Pasay City.

鈥淭hey are occupying a place na hindi kanila yan, I think it鈥檚 owned by GSIS, I believe,鈥 Duterte said.

The President said the Senate would need a 鈥渕ore spacious environment鈥 for 鈥渕obility.鈥

The the panel tasked with overseeing the construction of the Senate building had earlier named AECOM as the winner of the Global Conceptual Design Competition for the New Home of the Philippine Senate. /atm
