MANILA, Philippines — Three alleged robbers were killed in a shootout with police before dawn on Friday in Manila, officials said.<\/p>\n
Senior Superintendent Alex Gutierrez, chief of the Manila Police District, said the suspects held up a jeepney in Lawton, Manila at around 4 a.m.<\/p>\n
In a separate interview with Radyo Inquirer 990AM, Manila Police District-Station 5 chief Superintendent Ricardo Layug said the suspects boarded a jeepney at the corner of Pedro Gil and Taft Avenue.<\/p>\n
The victims sought the help of policemen, who chased the alleged robbers until they were cornered at Muelle del Rio, Ermita, \u00a0Layug said.<\/p>\n
Recovered were two caliber .38 handguns, a gun replica, and the wallets, mobile phones and jewelry stolen from passengers of the jeepney.<\/p>\n
The suspects have yet to be identified by police, added Gutierrez.<\/p>\n
The MPD chief said that they have fanned out anti-crime units to areas such as Lawton \u00a0where robberies were considered prevalent.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a man was shot by still unidentified assailant at the LRT station in Baclaran.<\/p>\n
The PNP’s Scene of the Crime Investigation is investigating the incident.<\/p>\n
