LAOAG CITY\u2014A newborn from San Nicolas town, Ilocos Norte was among 150 new COVID-19 cases reported in the province on Monday (July 19), the provincial government said.<\/p>\n
But details on the infant’s exposure to SARS Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19, were still unavailable.<\/p>\n
The new infections raised total active cases to 1,390 in the province.<\/p>\n
COVID-19 cases in Laoag City continued to rise with 627 active infections, followed by Batac City (130), and the towns of Bangui (88), San Nicolas (79), Bacarra (63), and Paoay (59).<\/p>\n
Five fatalities, all of them senior citizens, were also reported in the province on Monday.<\/p>\n
Dr. Norman Rabago, provincial health consultant, said at a press briefing on Monday that 80 percent of deaths due to COVID-19 in the province were senior citizens.<\/p>\n
As of July 20, Ilocos Norte now has 5,469 total COVID-19 cases, of which 3,976 had recovered while 103 had died.<\/p>\n\n
