MANILA, Philippines—Two people were killed after a wall that was being repaired collapsed and fell on them on Monday night in Quezon City.

Norma Magada, 44, and Robin Leuterio, 22, had just finished eating dinner on the hood of their jeepney which was parked on the street when the accident happened.

Their mangled bodies were later retrieved from the pile of rubble, Chief Insp. Rodelio Marcelo of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said.

The incident happened at 8:40 p.m. Monday at the corner of Mauban and Malasimbo Streets in Barangay (village) Masambong where the perimeter wall of the LG Atkimson warehouse was being renovated.

Marcelo said that concrete blocks were being added on top of the old perimeter wall to raise its height to that of a three to four-story building.

He added that before the accident, there were strong winds and rainfall in the area, followed by a loud boom coming from an electrical transformer.

At that time, Magada, her husband Reynaldo and Leuterio had just finished eating dinner on the hood of their jeepney.

Magada later went inside the vehicle to get something while Leuterio was standing nearby when a portion of the wall collapsed, burying the two victims, according to case investigator PO3 Hermogenes Capili.

A total of six jeepneys parked on the street were also crushed beneath the rubble.

Marcelo said they have yet to talk to the project contractor. Investigators were also trying to determine if the renovation was covered by a building permit issued by the city government.
