Bacolod mayor cancels classes, gov’t work due to floods

BACOLOD CITY— Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia has cancelled classes at all levels in both public and private schools, and suspended work in all government offices in Bacolod City today due to heavy rains.

Heavy rains on Thursday caused flooding and traffic congestion in various parts of Bacolod Thursday.

Leonardia, citing Presidential Executive Order No. 66, cancelled classes and suspend work today after meeting with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and DepEd Thursday .

The CDRRMO said PAGASA forecasts more than 90 percent chance of rainfall the whole day today.

The CDRRMO reported that Thursday afternoon, the accumulated rainfall from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. reached 72.8 mm, which is equivalent to 3 to 4 days of rains.

Leonardia said he did not want the public to get stranded in the flood.
